Dori Sanders collection, ca. 1990-1993.

Correspondence, clippings and other items, ca. 1990, relating to the publication of Dori Sanders' first novel, Clover, by Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, N.C.; collection includes a photograph of the author and two promotional publications from Algonquin Books: a booklet written by Sanders entitled "Ideal Land for Farming" and a flyer containing notices and comments on the novel and announcing publication of her second book, Her Own Place. Other items include an original, corrected copy of Clover, with working title "An Empty Doorway"; this manuscript varies from the published version of the novel; hardback and soft-cover signed printings of Clover, the latter a presentation set of folded and gathered sheets of the novel prepared for the "friends of Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill"; and working draft, ca. 1993, "Lady in Waiting," subsequently published as Her Own Place. Also including brief autobiographical essay, "A Writer from Filbert: Her own Place," given, 21 May 1993, which served as the keynote address at the 57th annual meeting of the University South Caroliniana Society [see web site for full text]
